GENERAL NURSING PROGRAMME

Admission into the General Nursing Programme is open to suitably qualified candidates who meet the minimum requirements prescribed by the (NMCN) of Nigeria.

Application Criteria
A minimum of five (5) credits O' level results at not more than two sittings in WAEC, NECO, or GCE O' level examinations, NABTEB.
Please note that NABTEB can only be combined with NABTEB
Candidate must present a coloured print out of the exam photo card at the venue of the exam.

The General Nursing Program in Nigeria is a 3-year (six-semester) basic nursing programme, approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN). It is designed to train students in practical nursing skills, clinical experience, and the necessary knowledge to become Registered Nurses (RN)
Key features
Duration: 3 years (Full-time).
Qualification: Registered Nurse (RN) Diploma.
Structure: The program includes classroom instruction and clinical postings/rotations in hospitals and community health centres.
Where offered: Mother of Mercy Colleges of Nursing Sciences Ngor Okpala
Key Areas of Study: Anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, nursing ethics, community health, medical-surgical nursing, and maternal health. The curriculum is regulated by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

​Admission Requirements

Academic Qualification: Senior Secondary School Certificate (WAEC, NECO, JAMB, or NABTEB).

Required Credits: A minimum of five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

Sittings: Credits must be obtained in not more than two (2) sittings.

Age Limit: Generally between 16 and 35 years.
After finishing a 3-year General Nursing program (and becoming a Registered Nurse, RN), you can proceed to midwifery training.
​This is typically an additional 18 months program in our accredited College of Nursing Sciences Ngor Okpala.
You will be trained specifically in:

Antenatal care (care during pregnancy)

Labor and delivery management

Postnatal care (mother and newborn)

Family planning and reproductive health

Handling obstetric emergencies​
​
After completing the program, you sit for professional exams conducted by the
Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
If successful, you become a Registered Midwife (RM).
​
At this point, you will hold a dual qualification:

RN (Registered Nurse)

RM (Registered Midwife)

Summary
3 years Nursing --> become RN
12 months Midwifery --> become RM
